postheadericon Our Mission

TSO's mission is to develop leaders of tomorrow by helping disadvantaged youth (aged 17 to 29), who have exhibited extraordinary resilience in the face of great trauma, war, poverty or oppression, achieve their academic and career goals and become leaders in their communities. Because local leadership is the best leadership, we aim to perpetuate a cycle of “paying it forward” where our Strongest Oaks (Oaks) pave the way for future Oaks, ultimately building strong and self-sustaining communities.

To achieve our mission, we deliver a combination of financial support (for scholarships and internships), mentorship (by local “Oak Leaders”) and relevant work experience (internships) to maximize the Oaks' ability to achieve their goals.

198 million Africans, 20 per cent of the continent’s population, are aged between 15 and 24 – the largest percentage of young people anywhere in the world. (eLearning Africa 2011)
